‘7 Days 7 DIY Face Masks’ Challenge For Soft, Glowing Skin

Meera and I were home alone, and of course we were loving it.

So this time, we’d decided to incorporate a little skin care into our daily fun activities and rituals. We took up a fun ‘7 days 7 DIY face masks’ challenge. The masks were all to be made from regular kitchen ingredients. We are 3 days done and still loving it. Well, at least one half of this team is seriously doing (and loving) the challenge, the other half, well, she’s sticking with fresh aloe vera! She does love her face packs and of course must have them as well!

So, I’ve started the challenge three days ago with Wednesday being my first DIY face mask day. Check out the first three along with the ones I plan to make and use for the 4 days to come.

Day 1: Cleansing, Tightening, Brightening Face Mask

Ingredients:

2 tbsp Bengal Gram Flour (Besan)
1 tbsp Yogurt
1 tbsp Lemon Juice
1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder

Mix all ingredients together in a bowl till they form a thick paste consistency.

I applied it evenly all over my face and neck and left it on for about 20 minutes. It dried in patches and maybe I should have waited a bit longer to wash it off. As of now, there was no visible difference in my skin (other than it feeling squeaky clean), but the psychological difference feels really good.

Day 2: Hydrating, Complexion-Correcting Face Mask (Beauty Banter Recipe)

Ingredients:

1 Ripe Banana
1 tsp Honey
1 tsp Lemon Juice
1/4 cup Rolled Oats (optional)

As I had exfoliated my skin before I put on the mask, I left out the oats. You are of course welcome to follow the original recipe. I mixed all the ingredients, applied it and kept it on for a good 20 minutes. It was a relief to wash it off.

My verdict for this mask is that it is hell to put on. The honey makes it a sticky mess and the banana makes it a sloppy goo. It gets dirty, messy and excessively sticky, be forewarned. But yes, the skin actually does feel great. I am not one to catch small nuances and changes fast, but the skin does feel hydrated and less stretched out. Can’t say whether it evened out my skin tone, but hey, even miracles take time! I love it enough to dare it again soon.

Day 3: Exfoliating, Clarifying Face Mask (DIY Health Remedy Recipe)

Ingredients:

4 tbsp Ground Coffee Beans
4 tbsp Cocoa Powder
6-8 tbsp Yogurt

I ran out of cocoa in my kitchen so I left it out. Still, this two-ingredient mask turned out pretty good. I halved the ingredients as I intended the mask for one-time use only and the waste would have been unnecessary. Other than the smell and the mask’s texture, I didn’t like this mask much. I didn’t look or feel any different (sigh, I’ve come to expect something every day it seems).

Day 4: Moisturizing, Soothing, Cooling Face Mask (Lauren Conrad’s Recipe)

Ingredients:

1 tsp Coconut Oil
2 tbsp Honey
1 tbsp Green Tea Leaves (Half a Tea Bag)
2 tbsp Lemon Juice

I must admit, I am most excited to try out this mask tomorrow. I mean, look at the ingredients, who wouldn’t? I am a bit worried about the honey after that last sticky episode, but hey, if I want well-nourished, hydrated skin that glows, I must bear it with grace.

The mixed concoction needs to be left on for about 10 minutes and then washed off with warm water.

Day 5: Lightening, Brightening, Rejuvenating Face Mask

Ingredients:

2 tbsp Fresh Tomato (Pureed and Strained)
2 tbsp Fresh Cucumber (Pureed and Strained)
1 tbsp Honey
1 tsp Lemon Juice

Blend the tomato and cucumber into a smooth puree and strain the mixture. Add the rest of the ingredients to the mixture. Mix well and apply with a cotton ball. Leave on for 20 minutes and then wash off. This mask in my own recipe, I combined a few recipes online. Since the ingredients are fresh and known to be good for the skin, I believe there should be no harm in combining them. Still, do try this mask on your own risk. Let me know if it works for you, especially so if it does not.

Day 6: Anti-Acne, Moisturizing Face Mask (Beauty Banter Recipe)

Ingredients:

1 tbsp Turmeric Powder
1 tsp Honey
1 tsp Yogurt

Mix all ingredients together to form a thick paste. More honey can be added to get the desired consistency. Leave on for 15 to 20 minutes and then wash off. As much as I hate the stickiness that honey brings to these masks, I absolutely love what it does to my skin. Definitely trying this one on day 6.

Day 7: Nourishing, DeTan Face Mask

Ingredients:

2 Small Pieces Of Papaya
1/2 Piece Of Tomato
1 tbsp Lemon Juice
1 tsp Honey

Blend the papaya and tomato into a smooth paste. Then add honey and lemon juice to the mixture and apply evenly on the face and neck. Leave on a few minutes. Wet your hands and face and massage your skin when the mask starts drying off. Rinse off with lukewarm water after massaging for a couple of minutes.

We all deserve a little pampering. And if you’re home alone, with no one around to pamper you, why not just pamper yourself! Your skin will love it!
